Background: 

Senate Bill 751, co-authored by Senators Jerry Hill (D-San Mateo) and Steve Glazer (D-Orinda), calls for the statutory reserve limit for school districts to be raised from current six percent to 17 percent.

The bill would amend the current reserve cap law to only apply to the reserves in a school district’s unassigned general fund and a portion of the reserves in a district’s special reserve fund. SB 751 would also exempt all small school districts and basic aid districts from the enforcement of reserve cap limits.

The Board discussed sending a letter of support for this bill.  A draft letter is presented for approval.
