II.SCHOOL SHOWCASE - Stevenson School (10 minutes)

 

Principal Ryan Santiago, staff and students of Stevenson Elementary School shared the Stevenson Core Values, which are the foundation for their Social-Emotional and Academic Learning.

Dr. Rudolph reported to the Board of Trustees that a Plan of Action was put into place regarding the coronavirus and there has been diligent work with the school sites to monitor student illnesses.

A.Board Policy No 5132, Dress and Grooming (10 minutes)
A motion was made by Devon Conley and seconded by Ellen Wheeler to approve Board Policy No 5132, Dress and Grooming, as presented.

  • Louis Roehrs, Appreciation for handling our concerns with the respect it deserved and with alacrity
  • Rebecca Escober, The language in the proposed dress code does not indicate straps for shoes or tops. This is a safety concern for younger students at the elementary school. 
B.Public Hearing: Initial Proposals for Mountain View Whisman School District and the California School Employees Association, Chapter 812 (CSEA) for Successor Agreement (10 minutes)
A motion was made by Devon Conley and seconded by Ellen Wheeler to approve the Initial Proposals for Mountain View Whisman School District and the California School Employees Association, Chapter 812 (CSEA) for Successor Agreement.

X.REVIEW AND DISCUSSION
A.Split Roll Initiative Presentation by County Assessor Larry Stone (30 minutes)

The Board of Trustees heard a Split Roll Initiative Presentation by County Assessor Larry Stone.

  • Brian Wheatley, I'm in favor of the board considering & hopefully passing a resolution in favor of schools & communities First
  • Gloria Chun Too, Speak in support of the School & Community First Initiative
  • Leanne Rzepiela, I am here to voice my support the School and Community First (Split Roll) 
  • Jessica Vollmer, Comment in support of School & Communities First Initiative (Split Roll)
  • Charles DiFazio, Support School and Community First
  • David Watson, Schools and community first will raise money for our schools, and it will do it in a way similar to other states. 

 

B.2020 Census (20 minutes)
A motion was made by Ellen Wheeler and seconded by Laura Blakely to move item X.B (REVIEW AND DISCUSSION) to IX (REVIEW AND ACTION).

The Board of Trustees heard information from the Bureau of the Census regarding the 2020 Census. 

C.2020-2021 Governor's Proposed State Budget (10 minutes)
The Board of Trustees were presented information on the Governor's proposed state budget for 2020-2021.
D.Strategic Plan and Local Control Accountability Plan Update and Timeline (15 minutes)
The Board of Trustees received an update on the development of the new Strategic Plan and Local Control Accountability Plan.
E.Feedback on Requirements for 2020-21 Calendar (10 minutes)

The Board of Trustees heard feedback on requirements for the 2020-2021 calendar.

  • Rebecca Escober, Feel it is important to align the internal vacation schedules with the high school but it seems there can be some flexibility with the start and end dates. 
XI.BOARD UPDATES

Ms. Wheeler:

1. Attended the Annual Economic Forecast offered by the Commonwealth Club of San Francisco.

2. Facilitated the regular bimonthly meeting of the education committee meeting of the Leagues of Women Voters of Santa Clara County.

3. Met with MVLA Trustee Fiona Walter.

4. Attended the January SSC meeting of Vargas Elementary School.

5. Attended a planning meeting of the committee helping to organize this year’s Champion for Youth breakfast.

6. Met with State Senator Jerry Hill with other League of Women Voters members. Senator Hill referenced issues related to education in the meeting.

7. Met with the Executive Director of the Santa Clara County School Boards Association.
