Background:
Overview of Policy
This Board policy states that appropriate dress and grooming contribute to a productive learning environment. The Administrative Regulation defines the parameters of the school rules that govern student dress and grooming which are consistent with law, Board policy and administrative regulations.
Summary of Changes
After a first reading at the Oct. 17, 2024 meeting, additional edits were proposed. A copy of the proposed changes, in blue ink have been included with this item.
The latest California School Boards Association-recommended BP/AR was used as a baseline with changes to "allowable" and "non allowable" dress parameters. Changes are recommended in order to:
• simplify the parameters to increase clarity;
• align the policy/regulations with the MVLA high school district; and
• include comfort, individual expression and respect for cultural and personal styles.
Based on Trustee discussion at the Oct. 17, 2024 meeting, staff is bringing the Board Policy and Administrative Regulation for approval.
