Background:
BP/AR 6145 - Extracurricular and Co-Curricular Activities
Overview of Policy
This Board policy states that extracurricular and co-curricular activities enrich the educational and social development and experiences of students and that the District encourages and supports student participation in extra/co-curricular activities. The Administrative Regulation defines these activities and outlines criteria and eligibility requirements.
Summary of Changes
The California School Boards Association recommended small changes to the policy and administrative regulation that consist of the relocation of original wording and replacement of some vocabulary to clarify the importance of these activities and that there should be no fees associated with them. Additionally, it is clarified that both the Board Policy and Administrative Regulation must be annually reviewed.
Based on Trustee discussion, staff will bring the Board Policy and Administrative Regulation back for approval at the next meeting.
A copy of the policy with the proposed changes as well as an updated copy with the changes has been included with this item.
