Agenda Item for Board Meeting of 12/7/2023

Agenda Category:  CONSENT AGENDA

Agenda Item Title:  Approval of Comprehensive School Safety Plan

Estimated Time:

Person Responsible:

Ayindé Rudolph, Ed.D., Superintendent

Background:

California Education Code (EC) Section 32281(a) requires every kindergarten through grade twelve school to develop and maintain a Comprehensive School Safety Plan (CSSP) designed to address campus risks, prepare for emergencies, and create a safe, secure learning environment for students and school personnel.

The law requires that each school update and adopt its CSSP by March 1 annually. For consistency and accuracy of district wide procedures, each school’s CSSP (or “school safety plan”) should use the District’s CSSP as a template.

MVWSD last updated its CSSP in 2011. The new CSSP presented here is a result of a year-long focused effort to review and update the District’s safety procedures. Through a partnership with Joffe Safety Consultants and the work of the District Safety Planning Working Group, this document reflects the latest best practices and legal requirements for safety procedures.
