Background:
At the October 20, 2022 Regular Board of Trustees meeting a request that the Board review and update MVWSD's AR 5144: Discipline.
The current administrative regulation includes the use of recess restriction by a teacher as a disciplinary strategy. As the American Pediatric Association (APA) writes: "recess is a crucial and necessary component of a child’s development and, as such, it should not be withheld for punitive or academic reasons."

Recommended Action:
It is recommended that the Board of Trustees approve the removal of "recess restriction by a teacher as a disciplinary strategy" from AR 5144; Discipline, as presented.
