Agenda Item Title:  Award of Contract to RC Benson & Sons, Inc., for the Vargas Elementary School Parking Cover Project

Background: 

The Board will consider awarding a contract for the Vargas Elementary School Parking Cover Project. 

On April 19, 2022, the District received contractor bids for the Vargas Elementary School Parking Cover Project. Two (2) proposals were received, and the apparent low responsive and responsible bidder is RC Benson & Sons, Inc. The District's Measure T Bond Program manager, Greystone West, has reviewed the proposal for conformance with District and statutory requirements. 



Fiscal Implication:

The construction budget for this project was $350,000. The bid received from RC Benson & Sons, Inc. was $635,899.00, and exceeds this budget by $238,044. 

After speaking with bidders for this project the overage is primarily attributed to recent increases in material cost due to supply chain issues. Concrete, paving and electrical components were the largest portions of this project impacted by material cost increases. The excess funds would be pulled from the overall program contingency to cover the overage.



Recommended Action: 

It is recommended that the Board of Trustees award the contract for the Vargas Elementary School Parking Cover Project to RC Benson & Sons, Inc. in the amount of $635,899.
