Mountain View Whisman School District

Agenda Item for Board Meeting of 3/18/2021

Agenda Category:  REVIEW AND DISCUSSION

Agenda Item Title:  Monta Loma Perimeter Control Work Group Update (30 minutes)

Estimated Time:

Person Responsible:  Rebecca Westover, Ed.D., Chief Business Officer

Background:

MVWSD seeks to secure its campus perimeters with fencing as a result of legitimate safety concerns from its students, parents, and staff. Additionally, COVID-19 reopening guidance from the State and County outlines limiting contact with the public and monitoring campus access points. Perimeter security was discussed in the Safety Town Hall in 2018, and projects were provided for in the MVWSD Master Facilities Plan, approved by the Board of Trustees in December 2019. The Master Facilities Plan was the foundation for the Measure T bond approved by voters in March 2020.

To address the concerns from the Monta Loma community community, the District will developed a working group of community members, school staff, parents, and the City of Mountain View.  The group has met two times.  Once on February 25 and once and March 17th.

The group's charge is to:

Provide recommendations to the Superintendent on how to provide safety for students and staff while allowing community access given the District’s constraints.

Representatives will be asked to take all perspectives including MVPD into consideration when making recommendations.

Become a partner in communicating findings to their communities.

Superintendent will bring final recommendations to the Board of Trustees.

Marcus Hibser, who is facilitating the process, will provide an update to the Board of Trustees.
