Background:
Staff will provide an overview of potential virtual programs to replace the in -person programs 5th and 8th grade students had at Walden West and NatureBridge.
During a typical school year all MVWSD 5th grade students have the opportunity to attend a 4 day, 3 night session at one of the Walden West camps - Saratoga or Cupertino. Students learn in an outdoor classroom with experienced naturalists.
Additionally all MVWSD 8th grade students have the opportunity to attend a 4 night, 5 day session in Yosemite National Park. Students explore the valleys, meadows and forests in small groups lead by experienced naturalists.
Both the 5th grade trip to Walden West and the 8th grade trip to Yosemite are highlights for students during their school years. Due to the pandemic these trips cannot be taken. Both Walden West and NatureBridge have developed virtual programs that students may participate in instead.
Fiscal Implication:
Approximately $18,000 for all 5th and 8th grade students to participate in a virtual experience.
