Background: 

Board Policy No. 3540, Transportation gives direction on transportation of students while on field trips as well as coming to school and going home. This policy was last updated on December 13, 2007. 

Board Policy No. 3540, Transportation is being modified as follows:

• Updated to include material formerly in the corresponding regulation regarding the means of transportation, contracts for transportation services, and the option to pay parents/guardians their actual and necessary expenses in transporting the student.
• The Policy also addresses (1) the district's authority to require families to pay a transportation fee, with specified exceptions; (2) the district's authority to transport students without parent/guardian permission when evacuation of students is necessary for their safety; and (3) the installation of a global positioning system on school buses to enhance safety and provide real-time location data.
