In alignment with Strategic Plan 2021 and Board of Trustees Goal 3, MVWSD has been working to develop a plan of action for the Dual Immersion program at Gabriela Mistral Elementary School that will result in an increase in the proficiency of English Learners in the areas of English Language Arts, math and science and have clear recommendations for improvements and programmatic changes at Mistral.
The School Quality Review in 2015 indicated areas of growth for the school. Additional data and research supported the need for some refinement of the program. During the 2017-18 school year, other dual immersion programs were visited to gather information about best practices. In the beginning of the 2018-19 school year, Mistral’s Dual Immersion Advisory Committee was formed and began working on a plan for implementation in the 2019-20 school year based on data, research and input from stakeholders.
