Background:
The District is in the process of revising polices based on the recommendation of the California School Boards Association. Board Policy No. 6174, Education for English Language Learners was approved at first reading on October 18, 2018.
Overview of the policy
Board Policy No. 6174 outlines the definitions related to the education of English learners, requirements of English learner programs, and State approved instruction models. This policy update maintains the same core requirements of providing for English language learners per federal and state mandates with the exception of the following items that align to the new legislation--Proposition 58 and updates of the California Dashboard assessment of English learner growth:
